Return from 1415

Yawn Yawn...

Well i am kind of awake after getting back from the Abbey Festival yesterday night. After much hard work and stress we were all ready to go on Friday morning. We got up there to face howling 80kph winds (well they were strong enough to make setting medieval round tents a 7 person job.)

I shan't go into toooo much detail about the actual events of Abbey except to say that there was much home made mulled wine and mead drunk and some absolutely fantastical food made by Cat and Vanessa. We had venison stews, quiches, mushroom pastries, brie tarts, apple and pear pies, cheeses, fruits and nuts, little beef pies, little venison pies, pasta, almond cakes... and the list continues. Medieval food weekends are truly the best!!

Apart from the freezing 7 degree nights, (in which i was very thankful for my new full circle cloak), it was an enjoyable weekend. Chris managed to escape any injuries that will stop us from going to England tomorrow, my brother fought in his first tournament, and dad won a few singles in the tournament. The only family injury being dad's very black, purple and bleeding thumb.

Now i need everyone to close their eyes and think of "The Knights Tale" with Heath Ledger.

Remember the scene when they are describing the joust and how most jousters "tilt there head at the last moment. You loose sight of your opponent, but you protect your eyes..." Well this actually was very pertinent at this tournament when one of the jousters got a large wood splinter thought the ocularium of his helmet. It landed (fortunately) about 1cm from his eye. Instead choosing to park itself some depth into his eyebrow leaving a very nasty looking black eye.

well back home with much much much to do. This post should be littered with exciting photos, but alas i am stuck on my brothers computer so photos of nasty combat and pretty clothes will have to wait.

You will be landing in about 12 hrs . . .
